Greetings,
The fishing was a little slower in the 2nd weekend of the tournament. It looks like there are some bigger fish in the area this week. Captain Dave Mullis caught a 70lb fish yesterday that he wishes was caught during a day open for the tournament. Please make sure that you have your boat registration slips when you weigh fish and that all other tournament rules are followed. We want to keep this tournament fun and simple. We're currently up to 61 boats and the overall prize will go up another $1,000 to $4,000 if we reach 70 boats.
There were no fish weighed last Friday. Chris Hatcher and the Salt Shaker team took the weekend lead on Saturday with this one coming in at 30.15#. They are also the new leaders in the Spanish mackeral category at 3.25 lbs.
The fishing heated up on Sunday. Below is a picture of Captain Mike Haywood on The Knaughty Dawg, with two 28 pounders . There were some other fish weighed in as well. Captain Mike, that many of you know from the Prickly Pear, will be catering the party at the Mexico Beach Marina on the 30th.
The day wasn't over yet. Captain Jeff Mormon aboard First Light called in asking if there were any fish over 50 pounds weighed yet for the weekend. We told him no and he said he was on the way. He brought in this stud and won the weekend and is the current overall leader at 66.46 lbs. Congratulations to him for this fine fish.
The captains and crews gathered this past weekend at Regan's Oyster Bar on Saturday and everybody had a good time getting together.
This weekend there will be another get together for everybody involved in the tournament. This week we'll be heading to the Haughty Heron in Port St. Joe located at 117 Sailor's Cove. They will be having events going on all day. There will be the first ever PSJ Crawl going on at a number of establishments in Port St. Joe on Saturday. The Haughty is having a BBQ Challenge going on during the day with karoke and live music starting around 7:00EST. There will be drink specials and the clever 2 for 1 YuengLING special going on all day. A big thanks to Blake Rish for putting this event together.
There were some large kingfish that showed up early this year and were caught last weekend by anglers looking for a big Spanish. These two over 30lbs were caught on The Ranger 23 and Floridaze. Dewey Blalock also caught two stud wahoo Saturday. There are fish here and the beaches are beautiful. Come enjoy this beautiful place.
Remember to be safe and have fun.
Tight Lines,
