Mexico Beach, Cape San Blas & Port St. Joe Florida

The 2011 Ling Ding presented by 98 Real Estate Group is off to an incredible start. There were loads of cobia caught this weekend and Captain Josh Dailey prevailed as the week 1 winner aboard Ms. Margie landing this 53.60#. Chaos and Captain Art Dillard are in the lead of the bonus Spanish mackeral division at 3.22#

The tournament is growing and we reached 50 boats last week making the overall grand prize $3,000 for the biggest fish.  We are doing everything we can to keep this tournament as fun, simple, and enticing to anglers to come down and fish as possible.  Last Thursday I sent out a welcome email announcing that we were at 32 boats and that the grand prize would go from $2,000 to $3,000 if we reached 50 boats.  We’ve blown past that goal and currently have 58 boats.  The tournament committee has decided to set another goal and raise the jackpot to $4,000 if we can reach 70 boats.  That will take the total prize money to $5,750!!  There’s a cool opportunity to enter the Halfhitch Cobia Tournament which is being held on April 16th and has a $5,000 payout for the biggest fish.  If you are entered in both tournaments and catch a monster, you could win $9,250.  Halfhitch and The Mexico Beach Marina both serve as our weigh stations and we would not be having near the success that the tournament is having without their help.

There will be another captain’s party this Saturday from 5-7EST at Regan’s Oyster Bar in St. Joe Beach.  Thank you to Mango Marley’s for hosting us last week and everybody there had a good time telling fish stories and making new friends.  We will again have registration forms and T-shirts available.  There will be $5 pitchers, $3 Landsharks, and $2.00 off on a dozen oysters.  The following weekend (April 16th), we will be meeting at The Haughty in Port St. Joe where they will have BBQ, live music, and drink specials.

The fishing was a little tough on Friday and the only two fish weighed in were both caught by Captain Don Spillers aboard the Perfect Bite.  These guys took the early lead at 40.14#.

The fishing really heated up on Saturday.  Below are just some of the fish pictured.  Dave Mullis, Ben Carnes, Graham Lovett, and many others weighed nice fish including the winning fish of the weekend pictured above.

Sunday was a great day on the water and just about every boat out reported landing fish.  I fished with my Dad for 3-4 hours and saw 15-20 fish, hooked up twice, and managed to land one. Floridaze brought a 44 pounder to the marina, hooked 5 and saw 28....  The fishing was hot.
